It is obvious from the graph that Sachin Tendulkar has been India’s most popular Cricketer throughout these years. In the second half of 2005 and early 2006 Maheandar Singh Dhoni earned a lot of fame thanks to his aggressive style of batting and some huge sixes. Dhoni’s graph has some of the highest peaks, but once he lost his novelty value his popularity graph too went down. The graph only covers a very small period in 2007, which is obviously Pre-World Cup. A Post-World Cup graph (after India’s terrible performance in the World Cup) would present a very interesting picture of Indian Circketer’s popularity trends.

Ok, seriously how many of you are surprised at this. To be really honest I knew that Sania Mirza was going to have a very good popularity graph but this is really surprising for me. It is crystal clear from the graph that Sania Mirza is way more popular than any of our cricketers. Sania’s first major achievement was in the 2005 Australian Open which is represented by the first peak in her(violet) graph. Her popularity graph underwent some drastic ups and downs with her wins and losses. Around 2006 Sania’s graph went down a bit and then it stabilized and it does not show much changes till early 2007. But I am very sure that with her recent wins in Acura Classic and the improvement in her ranking ( she is ranking 28 now which is her best ranking so far) would bring some very positive changes in her popularity graph.
